Pay no attention to that man

behind the curtain

Neil Salley is a multidisciplinary artist and inventor who works at the intersection of interactive multimedia installation and "experience fiction." His work leverages the lens of pataphysics to create playful narratives that explore the fluid and pliable relationships between history, fiction, and human perception. He utilizes a blend of found and fabricated objects—including animatronics, interactive video, kinetic sculpture, architecture, and his own patented form of holography—to bring these narratives to life.

He began developing Musée Patamécanique as a graduate student at the Rhode Island School of Design. Since its opening in 2006, the museum has served as both his fabrication studio and a primary medium for his immersive, multi-environment performances.

His limited edition books, sound art pieces, video installations and interactive electronic inventions have been shown and collected nationally and internationally including; The International Festival of Arts and Technology in Xi’an China, The London Institute of Pataphysics, The DeCordova Museum, Rhode Island School of Design museum, AS220 and The Rhode Island Foundation. He has received grants from The LEF Foundation and Rhode Island State Council on The Arts.
